In case you haven't heard, my beloved book, Jane Was Here, was reprinted into a special edition in honor of Jane Austen's 250th birthday this year and I can't stop watching her new gold foil stamp shimmer in the sunshine as I celebrate🙃

Because I've got Jane on the brain, today's Fun Friday creative prompt is based on paying creative homage to words you've been inspired by via hand lettering!

What is hand lettering, exactly? One of my favorite definitions that I've heard is that hand-lettering is the art of drawing letters and words. It's more than just writing them, it's about thinking about how they all work together as an image. Give it a try!

1. Pick a quote (3-7 words works nicely)
2. Explore different ways you can arrange the letters and words. Think about scale, shape, and flow to create a clear hierarchy
3. Collect inspiration for different ways you can draw your letters and words (will they have serifs? maybe they've got a little Western flair or some fancy cursive flourishes...)
4. Make your very own hand-lettered quote to decorate and inspire for your days ahead.
